A new round of evolution of the access network begins

As the network closest to users, every technological evolution in the access network field is accompanied by business changes. In the next five to ten years, there will be a new and dramatic change.
First of all, video has become the new basic service and growth point for telecom operators following the voice service. With the rise of big video services based on 4K/8K/VR, the flow of access nodes has grown geometrically. Generally, watching 4K video online requires 50-100Mbps stable bandwidth, 8K video requires 4 times the bandwidth of 4K; and to achieve VR 360-degree surround panoramic viewing experience, bandwidth starts at 500Mbps, the ultimate 11Gbps.
Secondly, the gradual maturity of smart homes and industrial Internet will also promote the explosive growth of the number of user connections. Although this has opened up space for growth for operators facing demographic dividends, it has brought enormous network pressure. Operators' demands for differentiated services and better user experience also impose higher requirements on network capabilities.
In order to meet the rapidly growing traffic and number of connections, access to the CO room requires fiber optics and the network needs to be flatter. On the other hand, in order to meet the requirements of lower latency for 4K/8K/VR video and the Internet of Things, the data center needs to be moved from the cloud to the CO room to realize the cloudization of the CO room; at the same time, SDN technology is introduced to support the business. Rapid innovation and distribution to enhance user experience.
